| I
am French-Canadian and having travelled widely I see myself as an
International Citizen of the Universe.
Conquered by the magical beauty and variety of the Australian landscape and the friendliness of its inhabitants, I have settled in Nimbin NSW. I am a ceramicist and painter. In my clay work I express my fascination with an everlasting desire to change and transform my surroundings. "The Wing" is the symbol I mainly use and mythology the inspiration. Gryphons and angels carrying dreams of change and transformation. In the world of Gryphons magic happens. For at least five millennium these whimsical animals, half-lion, half- eagle have fascinated the human imagination. At times the Gryphon has been; healer, guardian and messenger between the mundane and the divine, they have taken root in the human psyche. Any encounter with this mythical being is still as powerful as ever. The need for their protective energy, harvested since ancient times, is still needed in our modern life. When they enter our homes and gardens they bring joy, fascination, peace and magic to our daily life. Long live the Gryphon. My Gryphons vary in size up to about 60 cm and are created or made to order, mainly for a specific setting. The step from the Gryphon to the Angel is narrow. The poet Rainer Maria Rilke is my guide while working with these Beings of Light. From my hand they have taken countless different shapes from abstract to more naturalistic. The painting, "My Five Sisters", a work on paper, oil pastel, charcoal and ink belongs to the "Tweed Regional Art Gallery Collection". This work is a tribute to my five sisters as richly, mysterious sensual beings. To discuss works or arrange commissions please contact me; Claire Larrivee PO Box 348 Nimbin 2480 Australia
